Pictures of Stingray City, Cayman Islands

One of best attractions in the Cayman Islands and arguably in the Caribbean is Stingray City.  I remember I once had a friend who was visiting and she asked me if there were restaurants we could eat in.  I had to smile. Stingray City is not a city for people.  It is a city for Stingrays and unless you like eating raw squid - I suggest you have a hefty breakfast before heading out to one of my favorite places in the world.  Here are some shots of the amazing place.

Approaching Stingray City

I have to admit that I don't take my SLR out on the water for fear of salt water.  Most of these photos were taken using my Olypus 720SW which is an waterproof point and shoot camera that I highly recommend to a family going on vacation.  Its waterproof, shockproof, weatherproof and its the only camera you will need.

The only way to get to Stingray City is by boat - unless you can walk on water.

As soon as your boat docks, these black spots in the water start moving towards you.  They can smell food!

As soon as you step into the water, the Stingrays surround you and everyone else.  Yes its kinda scary at the beginning but as soon as you warm up to these magnificent creatures, you would then be able to kiss them and pet them and feed them squid.

Here is a close up of how you can handle a Stingray.  I read somewhere that you should never take them out of the water so please - when you go to Stingray City just remember to be gentle with these creatures and if you see anyone manhandling them improperly, please do something about it.

Meet my buddy the stingray - here is Captain Rene showing me how to handle the Stingray.

There are many sizes and this one that Lolita is holding is a large one.

So - hopefully my photos have convinced you to go to Stingray City.  If you only have time to visit one thing in the Cayman Islands - this would be it.  If you have any questions or would like to find out how you can go to Stingray City, please follow the link to GoCayman.ky's website.
