George Town Cayman Islands |
|
The following photos are of George Town, which is the capital of the Cayman Islands and is located in Grand Cayman - the largest of the three islands. George Town is where the port is located and during the week, town is usually filled with tourists who come via cruise ships. These photos above were taken during a Sunday and it is easy to notice the stark contrast of the town being empty. Businesses are closed on Sundays and that is mandated by law.
The photo murals on the slideshow above can be found right in the center of George Town. A building not to be missed is the library as it has both an old and new wing.
Here are some things to expect when visiting George Town: 1. Shops operate using dual currency (both US and CI dollars) so you don't have to worry about not having local currency. 2. Duty Free Shopping - no taxes on jewelry, perfumes, watches, etc. 3. The Museum is located right on the Waterfront for any visitors who want to know more about Cayman's history and culture 4. There are minibuses that pick up people right on the waterfront to go to Seven Mile Beach 5. If you are not accustomed to heat, it would be best for you to bring water while you walk the streets of George Town 6. There is nice snorkeling spot right by the waterfront called Devil's Grotto - landmark is Eden Rock, where gear is for rent.
I will add to this list as it comes to mind... have a great time visiting George Town! |
